A Note About Shan

Shan Antony has served as an intern for the Lugar Center for Rural Health for the past 18 months. Shan has worked on numerous projects and has contributed to helping secure external funding, add value to reporting mechanisms, and data evaluation. He also helped develop the framework and content for the new Lugar Center website which launched in December of 2017. An aspiring physician, Shan is a Senior at Indiana State and will graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science this May. Shan is a leader in the B/MD program at Indiana State and is a recipient of the Rural Health Scholarship. He is finishing his final year at Indiana State with the unique opportunity and recognition of delivering the commencement address to his peers.

While Shan’s contributions for the Lugar Center and Indiana State are important-it is only part of Shan’s impact on society. Shan embodies the purpose of the B/MD program which selects individuals who are aspiring doctors and wish to practice in underserved areas. Shan’s next step into healthcare is medical school. He has been accepted into the Indiana University School of Medicine Rural Medical Education Program (RMEP) and plans to begin in the Fall of 2018 at the Terre Haute campus. Shan’s desire to serve rural and underserved populations mirrors volunteer work that he has completed across the globe. Shan volunteered his time and effort for Timmy Global Health which is nationwide nonprofit that collects resources and funds and takes them to disadvantaged populations throughout the world.

Shan traveled to Ecuador and worked with his colleagues to serve those with little resources to keep themselves healthy. (See Shan’s Timmy Global Health video below)

Anyone who spends time with Shan understands his strong desire to serve and his willingness to be selfless for the greater good. This desire paired with his strong academic achievements position Shan to be an excellent physician and a leader for any community who will be lucky for him to land in. We at the Lugar Center for Rural Health want to wish Shan the very best in his upcoming ventures. We are very appreciative of his work and look forward to seeing what he accomplishes in the future.
